Dan
and Donna Lee founded Morgan Winery in 1982, with a goal of
creating the finest wines possible by obtaining the highest
quality fruit. Chardonnay was the first wine, with a current
lineup including Chardonnay, Chardonnay Reserve, Sauvignon Blanc,
Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir Reserve, Syrah, and Zinfandel.
With the exception of Zinfandel, and a portion of the Sauvignon
Blanc, which comes from Sonoma County, all fruit is sourced
from Monterey and its sub appellations.
Style,
as expressed by the specific variety in its specific vineyard,
is the winemaking goal at Morgan Winery. You won't find heavy
handed winemaking techniques in Morgan wines. You will find
a varietally true core of pure, ripe fruit with balancing acidity,
subtle shadings from French oak barrel contact, and precise
expressions of the specific variety and terroir by a talented
and dedicated winemaking team. The Santa Lucia Highlands appellation
of Monterey, from which we source most of our Chardonnay and
Pinot Noir fruit, is one of the finest in California for Burgundian
varietals. The combination of cool temperatures, significant
winds, and low rainfall stress the vines to the point where
the typical growing season is 3 weeks longer than most California
regions. The result is more mature and intense flavors, typically
apple and pear in Chardonnay, black cherry in Pinot Noir. These
fully developed flavors are the core experience of our wines.
What you won't find in Morgan wines are exaggerated fruitiness,
oakiness, or other unnecessary winemaking influence.
