Cinnabar
is perched high up in the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking
Silicon Valley, the southern end of San Francisco Bay. It's
one of American's most rugged viticulture areas, with unique
mesoclimates and soils that support some of California's most
renowned vineyards and wineries like Mt. Eden and Ridge. Since
Cinnabar's first releases - the 1986 Cabernet and the 1988 Chardonnay
- each new vintage has dramatically shown what their mountains
can deliver: deep focused wines that speak with a clarity and
intensity of the soil and climate in which they are grown.
Cinnabar's
Owner/Winemaker Tom Mudd cites several factors that contribute
to the uniqueness of his mountain wines: estate grown, unique
mountain mesoclimate, special clones, dry farmed vines, handcrafted
wines and ageability. The new state-of-the-art winery was designed
by Tom Mudd. Caves were built into the hillside to provide barrel
storage with natural cooling.
The
wines produced include Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Santa Cruz
Mountain Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Central Coast Chardonnay, Central
Coast Merlot, and Mercury Rising, a Bordeaux-style red wine.
Although
Cinnabar does not have a tasting room, they love to share their
ridgetop retreat. Cinnabar is open to the public several times
a year for special open houses; individual visits can be arranged
by appointment.
Their
entertainment facilities and outdoor picnic area, offering panoramic
views of the nearby mountains and valley below, can be reserved
for business meetings and special events. Call for more information.
