In the majestic ambiance of California's Carmel Valley during 1982, Bob and Patty Brower began cultivating and nurturing fine wines. Within a few short years, their award-winning wines had earned a reputation as the industry's best quality/value.

Originally from the east coast the Browers headed to California to fulfill their dream of beginning a winery. The French Country Chateau was built to create an old world atmosphere which exudes warmth and hospitality. The Browers decided to begin their venture in one of the best well kept secrets in the state... Monterey County. Less than 15 years later, Monterey County is one of the leading wine producing regions in the world. Monterey County grapes, state-of-the-art equipment and experienced Winemakers result in these world class wines. All four of the winery's brands are distributed in over 46 U. S. States as well as Internationally.

The Winery boasts breathtaking vistas of the lush green valley where sunsets are unforgettable and rainbows bounce off the hills... The Chateau is exquisitely appointed with fine period French and English antiques. All guests are welcomed into the "Great Hall" that features a soaring cathedral ceiling, a magnificent stained glass window and immense fireplace. There's no tasting bar here, all guests enjoy wine tasting from a 14 foot French antique dining table that is the grand centerpiece for this beautiful room. The "Great Hall" is the perfect setting for private dinners, luncheons and receptions.

At Chateau Julien, we have always tried to create a sense of discovery and mystery. Wine is not a precise, manufactured substance. Rather, it is as much a mystery as it is a science. In fact, we understand that the wine creates as much as we create the wine. In this way, one "discovers" wines -- the flavors and taste that come from careful vinticutural techniques, but ultimately reside in the mystery that we call nature.

So who is Julien- the consummate wine maker or just a lofty figurehead giving a name to the marvelous nectar produced here? All we will say is that the truth is as enigmatic as the mystery itself... in essence, Julien is the wine and the wine is Julien. A mystery like a good wine, is best savored one sip at a time. Therefore, we invite you to discover further.
